St. Augustine’s City of God

Reading St. Augustine of Hippo will enrich your life both as a Christian and as a human being facing the many challenges of living in a fallen world. The City of God is perhaps his fullest exposition of the many things Catholics need to understand about the relationship between public and personal matters as we make our pilgrimage towards our ultimate destiny.

Welcome to St. Augustine’s City of God with Robert Royal

Congratulations on enrolling in our eight-week course of St. Augustine’s City of God. I’m confident that this will be an enriching experience as we go through one of the greatest and most influential texts of our Catholic tradition.

As in past courses, we will work our way systematically through Augustine’s text – with some additional materials that is given ahead of each session. If you are short on time, you should always focus on reading the assigned text of Augustine for any given session.

This is course is intended to deepen your appreciation for several Catholic truths that are helpful for us at this critical time, but really for all people trying to live a good life in the toils and troubles of human history. We don’t have to worry about texts, exams, or grades. Only truth. So take you time in your reading, think about it deeply, and let our great brother in the Faith St. Augustine inspire you.

Sincerely,

Robert Royal
