Welcome to Dante’s Inferno with Robert Royal

Thank you for enrolling in this course on Dante’s Inferno. In this course, we’ll see how Dante wakes up to his predicament – he’s lost in a dark wood. As he soon discovers, he’s going to have to make a trip to the very bottom of Hell in order to understand the things that are keeping him from a life of virtue and holiness. In the next course – on Purgatorio – we’ll see how sins are purged and virtues developed, and in Paradiso, how the expansion of vision and the soul make us capable of the Beatific Vision.

We’ll focus on how “Dante” the character (who is not always the same as the Dante writing about the character) begins his journey.

We’re going on a profound pilgrimage together in the next few weeks. Take it slow, savor the journey, and the new vistas that it will open up.

Sincerely,

Robert Royal
