Dante Alighieri’s Inferno

Dante’s Inferno is the first of three courses that cover the whole of his Divine Comedy – Inferno, Purgatorio, Paradiso. This course was originally offered live and is now available OnDemand so that more people can benefit from the experience of reading the greatest of Christian poems.

In this course, we’ll see how Dante wakes up to his predicament – he’s lost in a dark wood. As he soon discovers, he’s going to have to make a trip to the very bottom of Hell in order to understand the things that are keeping him from a life of virtue and holiness. In the next course – on Purgatorio – we’ll see how sins are purged and virtues developed, and in Paradiso, how the expansion of vision and the soul make us capable of the Beatific Vision.

  • An optional copy of Dante Alighieri: Divine Comedy, Divine Spirituality by Robert Royal

We highly recommend students also independently purchase a copy of either Anthony Esolen or Robert and Jean Hollander’s translation of Dante’s Inferno.
