Welcome to Dante’s Purgatorio with Robert Royal

Thank you for enrolling in this course on Dante’s Purgatorio. In this course, we’ll see how Dante and his guide Virgil have come ashore on the island mountain of Purgatory and ascend towards the summit where the Earthly Paradise, the original state of life on earth, still exists and may be entered those who have purged themselves of sins. Along the way, we’ll see how virtues are developed that offset the Seven Deadly Sins: Pride, Envy, Wrath, Sloth, Gluttony, Avarice, and Lust. And how souls become ready to begin their pilgrimage to Heaven and ultimately the Beatific Vision.

Dante is a whole universe. Take it slow, savor the journey, and the new vistas that it will open up.

Sincerely,

Robert Royal
